Social Events Of The Week

May 20th, 2012    Posted in fashion

Declare Yourself Inauguration Kick-Off Event, Washington

Jessica Alba looked radiant in her gold sleeveless asymmetrical dress.

The style was a bit fussy with the gathered detail on the front. But she tried to pull it all together with a black leather belt.

She paired it with black tights, and accessorized with black pumps, Christian Louboutin Aionoued bow clutch and spectacular multi-coloured stone earrings.

I’m really starting to love this new hair cut.

Hayen Panettiere sparkled in a black Marc Bouwer dress with silver sequined detailing. The dress was backless.

She wore this dress with black YSL platform pumps and a gold clutch.

Australia Week 2009 Black Tie Gala, LA

Rachel Griffiths wore one-shoulder Colette Dinnigan gown. The elegant gown sparkled with black sequins on the bust line.

She completed her look with Cartier jewelry and Manolo Blahnik heels.

Emilie de Raven wore this baby blue halter Moschino gown, which complimented her gorgeous blue eyes. The dress was cinched in at the waist with a black sash.

Melissa George opted for a stunning voluminous black gown, which was nipped in at the waist and had an embellished yoke.

She completed her look with an updo.

Versace Announces Its Couture Runway Show, Diego Della Valle’s Speedy New Train, And More…

May 19th, 2012    Posted in fashion

Donatella Versace has announced July 1 as the date for the Atelier Versace runway show after making a quiet return to the Paris Couture calendar last season with a small presentation. This time around, the label will have two shows at the Ritz Paris—the location of Gianni Versace’s last runway show in 1997. [WWD]An Abercrombie & Fitch on Savile Row? Not if the staffers at The Chap magazine can help it. The Chap employees dressed up in three-piece suits and staged a demonstration against Abercombie to express their discontent with the retailer for opening on the famed bespoke tailoring street. [Styleite]Tod’s chief Diego Della Valle unveiled his new high-speed train service, the NTV Italo, this past weekend in Italy. The train, developed with Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, will run through nine cities and includes all the works, such as seats made of Poltrona Frau hides, gourmet Eataly delicacies, and a cinema coach. [WWD]Victoria Beckham is lending her support to young designer Christopher Raeburn. Though she is known to step out in her own designs, Beckham recently bought one of Raeburn’s waterproof jackets and “tweeted a picture of herself in Beijing standing next to one of Raeburn’s inflatable squirrel installations,” according to British Vogue. Olivia Palermo In Marchesa – Couple Of The Year 2011

May 19th, 2012    Posted in fashion

Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl attended the Couple of the Year 2011 event in Hamburg, Germany last night.

The socialite looked beautiful wearing a Marchesa Spring 2011 dress.

Despite this being a red carpet re-run, Olivia’s white chiffon dress with a beaded neckline looks just as good a second time around.

I’m glad to see Olivia opted for a more elegant flattering hairdo on this occasion.

Her red and black satin heels plus her silver embellished Club Monaco clutch stand out just as much as her dress.

Runway To 2010 Grammy Awards – Ashanti In Tony Ward Couture

May 17th, 2012    Posted in fashion

It’s been a very long while since we last saw Ashanti on the red carpet looking this fabulous.

She walked the red carpet alone last night at the 2010 Grammy Awards in LA.

Normally I’m horrified by what she wears, but on this occasion I do like her bronze Tony Ward Fall 2009 Couture gown.

The embellished dress has a chiffon rise and fall train.  I just love how divine the colour looks against her skin.

Gold Giuseppe Zanotti heels and gold earrings complete this much improved look.

Facet Forward

May 17th, 2012    Posted in fashion

It stands to reason that if a seasoned fashion professional can’t find something she really wants, it probably doesn’t exist. That’s the case with British journalist Anna Laub, who recently launched the already buzzed-about eyewear collection Prism after unsuccessfully scouring stores for her ophthalmic ideal. “I thought, I’m supposed to be one of those people in the center of this industry. I should know of all the brands that exist for this and where I can find them,” explains Laub, who travels the world for WGSN. “I wasn’t thinking about starting my own line. I was just looking for glasses.” Laub’s collection is an ultraclean and classic take on vintage plastic frames that are made by hand in small runs in a very old family-run factory in the north of Italy—as opposed to mold-injected and churned out in the hundreds of thousands. That means they’re a strong enough product to weather the current hipster storm into which they’ll inevitably be whipped. Prism’s five styles, all priced at £205 (about $330), bow next week, but are available for pre-order at www.prismlondon.com or at Browns in London.

Who Wore Zac Posen Better? Leigh Lezark, Reese Witherspoon or Mary J Blige

May 16th, 2012    Posted in fashion

Back in March, Leigh Lezark attended Zac Posen’s Fall 2011 presentation wearing sexy leopard print dress from the designers’ Pre-Fall 2011 collection.

Leigh added black accessories including a fur jacket, black pumps and a quilted Chanel bag to her fitted knee-length bustier dress with a sweetheart neckline.

Reese Witherspoon accepted the ‘Generation Award’ at this year’s MTV Movie Awards wearing the same dress which she had shortened.

With her hair down in a teased wavy style, she completed her look with a pair of nude Jimmy Choo ‘Quiet’ peep-toes.

Mary J. Blige wore the same dress to attend the 2011 McDonald’s 365Black Awards this month.

The singer kept things simple by only adding a pair of black patent leather peep-toe heels to her look.

I love the dress on Leigh, especially with the black accessories as it looks incredibly chic against her signature jet-black hair, but her shoes definitely let her down here.

And while I admire Mary’s individual style, her bleach-blonde bob is competing for attention with the dress and just isn’t my taste.

Even though I think she could have added more exciting accessories, my vote is going to Reese. I much prefer her overall styling of the dress.

Click on the picture above to see more images of these ladies wearing their Zac Posen dress if you are still undecided.

You can buy this dress from Shopbop.com.

Searching For YSL In Marrakech—And Marrakech In YSL

May 16th, 2012    Posted in fashion

Marrakech is what it is now—including home of the annual Marrakech International Film Festival, which has been unfurling the red carpet this past week for the likes of Catherine Deneuve, Marion Cotillard, and Eva Mendes—thanks in part to Yves Saint Laurent. And to a great extent, the iconic designer’s legacy is what it is thanks to Marrakech. Want proof? First, go to Marrakech. Then see Yves Saint Laurent and Morocco, an exhibition that opened in late November and is up at the city’s Jardin Majorelle until March 18.Saint Laurent was born in Oran, Algeria, in 1936, but the richness and exoticism of North Africa really hit him 30 years later, when he first came to Marrakech. Inspired by the fluid lines of caftans and djellabas, Saint Laurent embellished traditional Moroccan garments and tucked them into new silhouettes. He reoriented Middle Eastern ideas of leisure and formality for the liberated, exploratory female of the late sixties and seventies, the era of the “saharienne.” In short, he didn’t live in Marrakech the way most French second-homers do.More than anything, though, Saint Laurent learned about color in Morocco. The 44 designs at the Majorelle (once the garden home of Saint Laurent and his partner, Pierre Bergé, now a museum and private park overseen by their foundation) come from the same exuberant palette as the region’s flora and precious stones. The show’s first exhibit is a red faille cape from 1989 with bougainvillea embroidery—one case where Saint Laurent literally put his backyard into his clothing.

RM by Roland Mouret Rainbow Collection Launch

May 15th, 2012    Posted in fashion

Last week the RM by Roland Mouret Rainbow Collection was launched on Net-A-Porter.com.

In order to celebrate this colourful collection Roland invited some of Hollywood most beautiful women to wear the looks at his launch party in LA last night.

Heidi Klum picked a stunning lavender RM By Roland Mouret violet silk mini dress which showed off her post-baby figure perfectly.

It’s such a shame about the white Trib Two’s.

Devon Aoki was equally colourful wearing a bright yellow RM By Roland Mouret silk mini dress, which she later paired with a leather jacket and studded clutch.

I love how this gives her a teeny tiny waist.

Olivia Wilde was more muted wearing a RM By Roland Mouret blue stretch silk dress.

Her look was also paired with a leather jacket and a Christian Louboutin Viola nappa clutch, which has a cute sculpted leather floral detail.

Over her black draped maxi dress, Rachel Zoe opted for a RM By Roland Mouret Zephyr silk brocade jacket which just shot to #1 on my wish list.

Demi Moore didn’t get the rainbow memo so she opted for one of Roland’s classic LBDs.

You can barely make out the folds on her beautiful one-shoulder dress.

I’m more in love with Amber Valletta’s RM by Roland Mouret Autan textured wool coat and Chanel clutch, than her Spring 2010 black and grey RM dress.

I wish she had worn one of the more colourful pieces.
